| Happy New Year!Brought to you by Box-Mart |
I do.
I also remember New Year's Day 2011 when immediately after a Rose Bowl Parade, ruined by commercials,
regular programming ensued. No football games on network TV. All the games except the Rose Bowl were moved to ESPN. No games on free TV.
If you have cable you were fine. But you also were paying for the games through your subscription to cable. I do not have cable. I will not pay $100 per month for a 1/4" sewer pipe with 12777 "channels" of excrement Jerry Springer style.
Could this happen to your garden as well? Could you garden end up being "ruined" by commercialism. Could all the great new plant varieties of the past decade become branding practices of the box stores?
What kind of plants would be developed if price was the sole selling point and shelf life the marketing point?
What would happen to the garden industry if plants became brands fully supported by a spring ad blitz and little of the science that breeders have used for centuries?
Don't think it can't happen? It may already be in the works.
Monrovia, Proven Winners etc. are moving over to the box stores and abandoning the independents that made them wealthy. Same already happened to Scotts, Miracle Gro and Round Up. No innovative products from these guys anymore.
Happy New Year................be sure and visit your LOCAL independent garden center soon.
Very soon.........................................
Garden advice you can dig!
